Should I hire a local web designer or an RV park specialist?

This comes down to whether you value a local relationship more than industry knowledge, and there are real arguments both ways.

SHORT ANSWER

A local designer gives you someone you can meet, who knows your town, and who may bring local connections. A specialist already knows what a park site needs and does not bill you for learning it. The risks run opposite: a local designer may take on other clients and go quiet, while a specialist is remote and you will never shake their hand. If your local person has built for a hospitality business and will commit to a response time, they can be excellent. If they are learning your industry on your budget, you are paying tuition.

When the local designer is the better call

If they have built for a hotel, a resort, or a tourism business and can show it. If they will put a response-time commitment in writing. If your park has something genuinely unusual that needs custom work. And if you value being able to drive over and sit down, which is a real thing and not a soft one.

When they are not

If yours would be their first campground. If they cannot tell you how they would handle the site map or the rig-length pages. If the arrangement is build-and-hand-over with no ongoing support, because a park site needs changes several times a year. And if they are a one-person shop with no backup, which is fine until the week they are on vacation and your rates are wrong.

The question that decides it

Ask the local designer: "What would you put on the sites page that a general business site would not have?" A good answer names rig lengths, hookups by site number, surface type, and the site map. A vague answer about amenities and photos means you are paying for their education. We wrote a longer comparison here, including where the local option wins.

Related questions.

Is a local web designer more expensive than a specialist?

Usually more up front and less over five years, since one-time builds do not carry a monthly fee. Factor in hourly charges for changes.

What if my local designer has never built a campground site?

Ask what they would do differently for one. If the answer is vague, expect to pay for their learning curve in time and revisions.

Can I use a local designer and a specialist together?

Sometimes. Some parks have a local designer build the look and a specialist handle SEO and listings. Agree who owns what up front.

What happens if my local designer stops responding?

This is the common failure. Make sure the domain is in your name and you have the site files, so you can move without their cooperation.
