Consistency across sources: what an assistant cross-checks.
An assistant that finds your park reads more than your site. It reads the Business Profile, Bing Places, the directories, the booking platform, the reviews. When they agree, the park is a solid fact it can state. When they disagree, it hedges or picks the park whose sources agree.
IN ONE PARAGRAPH
In our testing, AI assistants state a fact more confidently when several independent sources say it the same way. A park whose website, Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Maps, the campground directories, and the booking platform all give the same name, address, phone, season, hours, site counts, and amenities is a park the assistant can describe with confidence. Contradictions, an old phone number on a directory, a season that changed, a name with and without "RV Park," produce hedged answers or leave the park out. We see it in the prompt tests every month. The fix is an audit of every place the park is listed and one canonical set of facts pushed to all of them.
What gets cross-checked
- Name, exactly as written, including "RV Park" versus "RV Resort" versus "Campground."
- Address and phone.
- Season and hours, especially seasonal closures.
- Site count, types, and amperage.
- Amenities: pool, dog run, WiFi, dump station.
- Pets and rig-length policy.
- Rates, roughly. A directory rate from 2019 against a current site rate reads as a discrepancy.
Where the park is listed
Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Maps, Yelp, Facebook, the booking platform's page, Campendium, RV Life, Good Sam, KOA or the chain if any, Hipcamp, The Dyrt, Recreation.gov if applicable, the chamber and the tourism board, and whatever directory the previous owner signed up for in 2014. Every one is a source an assistant may read. The directory audit, in the SEO guide.
What one looks like
An audit table for a park, as we would build it on setup:
| Source | Name | Phone | Season | 50 amp | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Website | Willow Lake RV Park | (928) 555-0142 | Year-round | Yes | Canonical |
| Google Business Profile | Willow Lake RV Park | (928) 555-0142 | Year-round | Yes | None |
| Bing Places | Willow Lake RV Resort | (928) 555-0100 | Not set | Not set | Claim, correct |
| Campendium | Willow Lake RV Park | (928) 555-0142 | Apr to Oct | Yes | Update season |
| Good Sam | Willow Lake RV | (928) 555-0100 | Year-round | 30 amp only | Claim, correct |
Before the fixes, an assistant asked about 50 amp at Willow Lake finds two sources saying yes and one saying no, and may say "some sites may have 50 amp." After, it says yes.
What it looks like when it is missing
The park changed its phone number three years ago. The site and the profile have the new one. Four directories have the old one. Gemini, asked for the phone, gives the old one because more sources say it. A guest calls a disconnected number and books elsewhere.
How to check your own
- Search your park's name and open every result on the first two pages. Write down name, phone, season, and amperage from each.
- Ask an assistant "is [park] open in winter" and "what is [park]'s phone number." See which source it believed.
- Fix the worst three listings this week.
What we do about it
The Listings + Reviews band pushes one canonical set of facts to every major listing and keeps them synced when anything changes, which is what makes the sources agree. The Marketing band adds the assistant checks so we see it working. Reviews, the source you do not write: next.
Questions about this.
Why does an AI assistant give the wrong phone number for my park?
Because more sources online say the old number than the new one. In our testing, agreement across sources is what the assistant goes with. Fix the directories and the answer follows.
Do AI assistants read campground directories?
Yes. Campendium, RV Life, Good Sam, The Dyrt, and the rest are in the indexes assistants search, and their facts get read alongside the park's own site.
What is the most important thing to keep consistent?
Name, phone, season, and hours. A season mismatch is the one that gets a park dropped from 'open now' answers.
How often should listings be checked?
Whenever a fact changes, and otherwise quarterly. Directories drift, and a stale one becomes a contradiction.
