Why does ChatGPT not know about my RV park?
Four causes, and a five-minute test that tells you which one you have.
SHORT ANSWER
Four causes. Your site is not in Bing's index, which is the most common and applies to most parks, since ChatGPT searches Bing rather than Google. Your pages state nothing specific enough to quote, so the assistant reads them and moves on. Your only web presence is a booking platform page, which reads as a directory entry rather than a business. Or your sources contradict each other and the assistant cannot verify anything confidently. The five-minute test below tells you which.
The five-minute test
- Search your park's name on bing.com. If your site is not on the first page, you have the Bing problem.
- Ask Gemini about your park. If Gemini knows you and ChatGPT does not, it confirms the Bing gap, since Gemini uses Google.
- Ask ChatGPT: "Tell me about [your park]." If it answers vaguely, "offers full hookups in a scenic setting", your pages lack quotable facts.
- If it says "listed on [booking platform]", your entity has no home of its own.
Fix one: get into Bing
bing.com/webmasters, add the site, import from Google Search Console, submit your sitemap. Then claim Bing Places and make it match your Google profile. Two to four weeks later, ask ChatGPT again. This single step changes the answer for most parks.
Fix two: give it something to quote
Add a facts page: site counts and lengths, amperage by site number, rates by season, check-in times, pet rules, distances with drive times, season dates, and what the road in is like. Plain sentences with numbers. What goes on one is here.
Fix three: check you are not blocking it
Open yourdomain.com/robots.txt. If you see lines blocking GPTBot, PerplexityBot, or Bingbot, that is the answer. Some security plugins add these by default. If you want to be recommended, they have to be allowed in.
