RV PARK AEO GUIDE

What AEO is, and how it differs from ranking a link.

A search for "how far is Grizzly RV Park from the Yellowstone entrance" can return ten links, or it can return one sentence at the top with your park's name in it. The second is answer engine optimization, and it is won by how the page is written, not by how it ranks.

IN ONE PARAGRAPH

Answer engine optimization is writing pages so that search engines and voice assistants can lift an exact answer from them: the featured snippet box above the results, the single sentence Siri or Google Assistant reads aloud, the direct reply under a "People also ask" question, and the short answer at the top of Google's AI Overview. It differs from ordinary SEO in that the goal is extraction, not the click. The page has to state the answer in one clean sentence or one clean list, under a heading that matches the question, on a page that already ranks reasonably. For a park, the questions are practical and the answers are facts you already know.

Where the answers show up

  • Featured snippets. The box above the first result with a paragraph, a list, or a table pulled from one page.
  • People also ask. The expandable questions in the results, each answered with a fragment from a page.
  • Voice. Siri, Google Assistant, and Alexa read one answer aloud, usually the snippet or the Business Profile.
  • AI Overviews. Google's generated summary at the top, which quotes and links sources that stated the fact plainly.
  • The knowledge panel. Hours, phone, and address answers come from the Business Profile, not the site.

What a park can be the answer to

The questions guests actually ask, which are factual: how far is it to the entrance, is there a dump station, do they take 45-foot rigs, what are the rates in July, is it open in winter, can I bring a dog, is there WiFi that works. Each is a question a page can answer in one sentence, and each is a snippet or a voice answer a park can own for its own name and often for its town.

What one looks like

Search: "how far is Grizzly RV Park from Yellowstone." The snippet, pulled from the park's area page:

Grizzly RV Park is four blocks from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park, about six minutes by car including the morning entrance line, and a fifteen-minute walk.

On the page, that sentence sits directly under a heading that reads "How far is Grizzly RV Park from the Yellowstone entrance?" That is the entire technique: the question as the heading, the answer as the first sentence, the detail after.

How it differs from ranking

Ranking is about the whole page being the best match for a search. Answers are about one passage being the cleanest statement of one fact. A page can rank third and own the snippet, because its answer sentence was the cleanest. A page can rank first and not own it, because the answer is buried in a paragraph about the family who bought the park in 1998. The pages in the SEO guide get you into the results; the pages in this guide get you the box.

How to check your own

  1. Search five factual questions about your park: distance to the attraction, dump station, rig length, July rates, winter. Note whether a box appears and whose it is.
  2. Ask the same five to your phone's voice assistant. Note what it reads.
  3. Search "[your town] RV park" and open every "People also ask" question. Note which are answered from a competitor.

What we do about it

Every page we build states its facts as answers under question headings, with FAQ blocks and structured data, so the extraction is easy. In the Marketing band we track which questions the park owns and which a competitor does, and write to take them. The core technique, next.

Questions about this.

What does AEO stand for?

Answer engine optimization: writing pages so search engines and voice assistants can extract an exact answer, for featured snippets, voice results, People also ask, and AI Overviews.

Is AEO different from SEO?

Yes. SEO gets a page into the results. AEO gets a passage from it pulled out as the answer. A page can rank well and still not be the answer if the fact is not stated cleanly.

What questions can an RV park be the answer to?

Factual ones guests ask: distance to the attraction, dump station, rig lengths, rates by season, winter opening, pets, WiFi. Each can be answered in one sentence under a matching heading.

Do I need to rank first to get a featured snippet?

No. The snippet usually comes from a page on the first page of results, and the cleanest answer wins, not the highest rank.
